whoa, am i ever in one of those moods today. you know the ones — where just about everything sets you off and you’re a real cranky pants? yeah, that one. i’m generally not a moody person at all, so when i turn to the dark side it really affects me and i really notice it. and i don’t like it one little bit. don’t worry, it’s probably only temporary, and i know what would help — a vacation could fix me right up! but, alas, since thus far today i’m unable to shake it, or go on holiday anytime soon, i’m channeling it and you’re getting my black soul today. i hope you like it. oh, and my point is here, i actually do love me some black accents. those kinda dark days can stay.
oh look! i’m saved today after all — by this bright and beautiful Caribbean beach house belonging to photographer, anita calero featured recently on axxis. with its indoor-outdoor feeling, it’s brought me back from the dark side and i’m feeling much more chill already. made up of exposed white beams and nuances of bamboo and tortoise shell this beach house has a really relaxed island style and even a touch of whimsy. no tv, minimal electricity (the owner prefers to live by candle light) this is the ideal spot to unwind and unplug from it all. to take a mini holiday, hop over to axxis and have long, leisurely look around.
this is the lovely home of pernille teisbaek, writer, stylist, and editor of Look de Pernille featured in harper’s bazaar. she’s recently purchased this gorgeous loft space in copenhagen and decorated it minimally, but with a warm, welcoming vibe. when she moved from her former home, she brought with her just the things that really meant something to her — sentimental vintage treasures and cozy textiles to create a space that felt light, calm and reenergizing. to see the full fabulous home tour, visit harper’s bazaar — also click here to see some of pernille’s styling projects and follow along on instagram.
no one could ever accuse me of being a girly-girl, but i do have a soft spot for sweet hues in the bedroom. everything from blush, to shades of robin’s egg blue are being found in these boudoirs — truly the stuff that dreams are made of. this rosie trend is best implemented in eye-catching additions, like the perfect candy-colored throw, statement wall, or bedside table. and since Pantone chose these pretty pastel shades for their colors of the year, we must be on the right track, n’es pas?
it could be that french light, or the love story behind the house itself, but i’m swooning for this home tour. owners annie and colin joined creative and aesthetic forces to bring to life a modernized masterpiece within a traditional french canvas (after a mere four-year renovation). the home’s owners met on a train in paris, which led to their collaboration of the home they chose together — a modernized masterpiece. feeling strongly about sustainable design, they hand recycled pieces that were turned into decorative artifacts. another hands-on project included a complete re-design of the garden, breathing in new life to the in, and outdoor space. yet another win for french interiors, and romance. to view the full home tour visit nuevo estilo.
we’re having a rock n’ roll moment for a second while we introduce you to this week’s wear this there. sketch is london’s cotton candy dining (and high-tea) experience that is all types of british eccentric, and we’re diving right in -— pinkies up! it’s truly 50 shades of pink everywhere you look, from the booths to your boots. a punk rock floral frock, paired with that killer leather jacket, there’s no rules when it comes to dressing, or decorating. think of this as an ode to those fearless brits that paved the way.
ever since visiting coqui coqui in tulum early last year, i’d heard rumors that they’d soon be opening an online shop. patiently i’ve waited and at long last my virtue has paid off — coqui coqui, that gorgeous spa hotel in mexico has started selling their wares online. you can find their sweet smelling perfumes and bees wax candles, and you shop their signature statement piece — those stunning Artisan hand-woven hammocks. don’t see the color you’re looking for? no worries — email them and they’ll custom make one for you. with hammocks this pretty, you don’t even need to lounge in them — they make instant and inspiring art by just hanging them on your walls. here’s to getting the coqui coqui vibe at home — without even having to hop on an airplane.
eclectic — the real thing is hard to come by. i feel as though i see loads of decor that’s trying to be eclectic, or staged as such, but a truly eclectic space is one that i think evolves over time — heirloom pieces meet brand new finds, and personal trinkets shine. it’s a look that is often imitated, but should actually come about quite effortlessly. for that to happen i believe you have to hold on to only what really matters to you and makes you happy to be around and then your style just happens naturally. it’s all your beloved books and artwork, mismatched chairs and unexpected textile pairings, vintage light fixtures and worn-in slouchy sofas that you just can’t part with. i know the feeling all too well of wanting a room to come together with the simple twitch of your nose, but try and be patient and let it grow and ripen over time — a little bit like true love.
is it possible that if we were a chic locale, leo’s oyster bar in san francisco would be us? eccentric coloring, vintage highlights, friendly and inviting. if you aren’t convinced, just peek at the outfit we would wear to feast on oysters with an abundance of our favorite SF pals. some of our favorite pieces include vibrant yellow accessories (these shop shade sunnies are everything), and a killer wooden clutch. this week’s read this there includes an appropriate fiction of a boy who lives within the foliage: baron in the trees by italo calvino — a lifestyle choice we could get behind.
wear this there:zara long jumpsuit with crossover neckline; front row shop yellow suede mules; aesop geranium body balm; georgette crimson 3-way bandana; J.CREW DRAGONFLY CRYSTAL EARRINGS; shop shade lucy shield in yellow; and nasty gal wood if i could clutch.
i fell hard for this classic Scandinavian apartment belonging to designer Hanne Bloch featured on bo bedre. those serge moille lighting fixtures, that covet-worthy white tufted mid-century modern lounger, the eames dining chairs — all of it works perfectly together, and i wondered how one might go about getting the look. a great plush green leather sofa, some beautiful vintage rugs — it’s an eclectic look with a lot of layers, but here are a few ideas i thought might make it all come together. oh, some dark stained hardwood floors wouldn’t hurt, either!
get the living / dining room look: some gorgeous Case Study Arm Shell Dowel chairs from modernica; CB2’s mantis wall sconce is a nice option for lighting; this is one pretty Eames Lounge Chair with Ottoman in White Ash from Yliving; Mongolian Lamb Pillow from west elm is a good match; the Alberta Table Lamp from caravan pacific in ochre is great; you’ll need a large formet b&w print, like this art print of tania mallet from art.com; some pretty colored glass vases, like this Glass Bottle Vase from anthropologie; and a green leather willoughby sofa from anthropologie is a nice option.
san francisco’s shipyard is looking much more than shipshape these days — thanks to a beautiful collaboration between long-time home builder Lennar (building since 1954!) and the interior design services of Laurel & Wolf. the online designers have beautifully designed a few of the new model homes for Lennar’s new San Francisco Shipyard properties, which are now open for viewing. The San Francisco Shipyard is now selling three communities — Alma, Engel and Thayer, and for a limited time when a new home is purchased Lennar will include a Laurel & Wolf Signature Design Package, which allows you to work one-on-one with a professional interior designer for a room of your choice. here’s just a sneak peek at their latest work for The San Francisco Shipyard.
This is a sponsored post in partnership with Lennar and all words and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that help keep sfgirlbybay going with fresh content every day.
it’s hard to imagine that this beautiful home in ibiza once housed horses, not human beings. recently featured on design milk, this former 200-year old stable was given a brand new life by Ibiza Interiors and Standard Studio who collaborated on this rather daunting renovation project. together they’ve created such an incredible loft-like space with a marvelous mix of rustic meets modern by using the original stone walls and beamed ceilings, but adding an eclectic assortment of mid-century modern furnishings like their fab collection of eames chairs and unique light fixtures. the result is an interesting and very warm, welcoming space. for the full tour, visit design milk.

i’ve always thought it so cool how we can use color as a reflector of what’s going on in our culture. each year, color creators at pantone release their color of the year, and as you may know, in 2016 they chose not just one, but two colors: the year of rose quartz and blue serenity. it could be amongst chaos we as a culture sought out comfort in the soothing pastel hues we surround ourselves with. i was curious as to who, and how they come up with these definite choices. turns out it’s just a handful of the most prestigious color experts and a whole lot of trend forecasting.
for 2017? they are predicting a color they’ve deemed “thrive” a yellowish-green tone. is it possible we are seeking escapism through this exotic color? more doses of bright happiness? in the words of pantone: it promises longevity, endurance, and health.
every night’s a full moon when you perfect the trend of decorating with paper lanterns. i say less is not necessarily more in this situation, so an affordable option like the adessa orb or ikea’s REGOLIT paper pendant lamps will let you go lantern wild if you wish. these delicate orbs do the job while setting the mood and adding a soft glow within the space you’ve got.
i’m getting closer to my kitchen remodel so i’ve been saving a bunch of images to my kitchen confidential pinboard for inspiration. i know i want there to be lots of light, and lots of white — starting with carerra marble countertops. i was going to go with a fun moroccan tile on the floors but because of the layout of my house, i think it will break up the space too much, so now i’m hoping the hardwoods underneath the currently hideous tile is in good shape, or at least recoverable. i hope to knock out the wall and existing window to the patio and put in french doors, so that should send light rushing in quite nicely. anyway, i’m getting there with my plans — here’s some white, bright and very light spaces i love.
happy friday, y’all! i shared some of my kitchen remodeling ideas with you yesterday, and another thing i’m thinking about doing with my kitchen makeover is busting through the false ceiling and exposing the natural beams beneath — like in my living room and bedroom. i love these looks — so rustic and cozy, but painted white gives them a modern touch. here’s to the weekend everyone — have a great one! xo, victoria
originally a 20th-century Edwardian, this artist’s home in australia is kinda ‘business in the front, party in the back’. it may look like a more like a charming, traditional edwardian from its exterior, but inside it’s unexpected and eclectic, and out back, well that’s where the party really gets started — it looks like an artist’s dream come true to me. i first saw this home on dwell’s instagram and just had to hop over to dwell to check it out in depth. the renovation took their fixer-upper from an ordinary suburban home and turned it into a modern mix that retains the period architecture and its detailed fireplaces, timber floors, and ornate ceilings but gives it a whole new exciting life. for the full tour, visit dwell magazine.
well, they’re not exactly daddy long legs, but the serge mouille lighting fixtures do kind of conjure up an elegant long-legged spider, if you will. they are also my personal very favorite lamp fixture. they come in many shapes and sizes from ceiling pendants to wall sconces to his the Three-Arm Floor Lamp, first created in 1953, and each and every one takes my breath away. french icon Serge Mouille made each of his lamps by hand and never used machine technology to maximize production numbers so one of his lamps are as much a work of art as it is a source of illumination. not inexpensive, but most certainly an investment in an iconic piece of lighting history. can’t swing the real thing? cb2 has a wall scone with a very similar vibe — meet the mantis.
A happy home is not only a beautiful one but a healthy one, too. The ethos of Cisco Home and their commitment to design, family and the environment in creating their collection of sustainable furniture. Since 1990 founder Cisco Pinedo and his family have handcrafted their full line of furnishings using sustainable materials and building methods from their company’s los angeles workshops. Pieces with plenty of style in mind, but are as good and healthy for its patrons as they are for the planet.
The full suite includes everything you need to style your home, including seating, case goods, bedroom, lighting, mirrors and a fun array of decorative pieces.
Along with his daughter and the company’s creative director, Maurishka, they also designed an exquisite print collection available as pillows, upholstery and yardage. The prints were inspired by traditional textiles, like African mudcloth, Burmese indigo and Moroccan kilims, and each use natural dyes and materials in their processes.
The most recent debut is a new collection called Environment. Cisco has partnered with two L.A. based makers who share similar sustainable and handmade production methods. Every piece has a unique story, where wood is reclaimed from inner cities, small rural towns and farmlands. A beautiful blend of the old and new, the classic and modern.
Cisco Home has six retail locations throughout California (including this one in San Francisco) and a gallery at ABC Carpet and Home in NYC.
